Use this Stripe fee calculator to estimate payment processing costs and net payout for a transaction. Enter the payment amount, percentage fee, fixed fee, and any additional cross-border or currency conversion assumptions. The calculator returns total fees, net amount received, and gross charge needed to receive a target net amount.

Formula

For the standard U.S. domestic card fee (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction):

Net Received (Charge → Net)

Net = Amount − (Amount × 0.029) − 0.30

Gross-up (Target Net → Charge)

Amount to Charge = (Target Net + 0.30) / (1 − 0.029)

Example

Example 1 – Charge → Net

If you charge $100, Stripe deducts 2.9% + $0.30:

Fee = (100 × 0.029) + 0.30 = 2.90 + 0.30 = 3.20
Net Received = 100 − 3.20 = 96.80

Result:

You’ll receive $96.80 after Stripe fees.

Example 2 – Gross-up (Target Net → Charge)

If you want to receive $100 after fees:

Charge = (100 + 0.30) / (1 − 0.029) = 100.30 / 0.971 = 103.29

Result:

You must charge $103.29 so that after Stripe’s 2.9% + $0.30 fee, you keep $100 net.

Frequently Asked Questions

These FAQs explain percentage fees, fixed fees, gross-up math, refunds, and why live processor pricing should be checked.

How does the Stripe fee calculator work?

The calculator estimates the amount Stripe deducts from each transaction based on the standard rate (2.9% + $0.30 for U.S. card payments). Enter the charge amount to see how much you’ll actually receive (“Net”) or how much you need to charge to receive a target amount (“Gross-up”).

Are Stripe fees the same for international payments?

No. International transactions typically include an additional 1% fee, and if currency conversion is needed, another 1% may apply. Always check Stripe’s local pricing page for your country before relying on the estimate.

Does the fee change depending on the payment method?

Yes. Card transactions use the standard 2.9% + $0.30 rate in the U.S., while ACH transfers, digital wallets, or local payment methods may have lower or different fee structures. The calculator assumes card payments unless specified otherwise.

What is the difference between “Charge → Net” and “Gross-up” modes?

“Charge → Net” shows how much you’ll receive after Stripe’s fee from a given transaction amount. “Gross-up” (Target Net) calculates how much you should charge your customer to receive a specific net amount after fees are deducted.

Does the calculator include refunds or disputes?

No. The calculator estimates standard transaction fees only. Refunds, chargebacks, disputes, and additional Stripe services (like payouts or currency conversion) are not included in the calculation.
